Who's your favourite commentator?
Jonathan Pearce - mental cunt, used to jump out his seat and scream over throw-ins, always seemed to like us too

John Motson - the old voice of MoTD, a true British institution

Andres Cantor - the Argie who made the famous "goooooooooooooooooooooooooooal" shout. Still cracks me up on YouTube clips. Hero.

You lot?

Tanman…. My Mate was on that horse at 66’s… I got a tenner on at 33’s…. and the rest of my office got him at reduced odds…. One of the very few `touches nose’ tips that came off in a big way…

Probably an ''age thing'' but Brian Moore on a Sunday Afternoon best by a wide margin IMO.

Re: Who's your favourite commentator?
Having backed him, my favourite bit of horse racing commentating was the champion hurdle that Alderbrook won in 1995. something like 'They are are at the top of the hill and Alderbrook the novice is absolutely crusing'. A good call as he won with ease. Cant recall who it was though.

Re: Who's your favourite commentator?
Barry Davis did what commentators should always do, just commentate. This is a real pet hate of mine and has been for a few years that commentating now comes with the commentators speculation and opinionated crap stated as fact, Johnathon Pearce has become one of biggest culprits. He used to be brilliant on Capital Gold but now on MoTD his expert analysis during slow motion replays from all angles are chapter and verse! But ITV and BT sport have the most awful coverage and presenters plus commentators.

My all time favourite was Brian Moore.

Alan Parry reminds me of wet and windy Monday night football in the early Premier League years.

All much of a muchness for me, but I have an unhealthy hatred for Jonathon Pearce.

I’m not being sexist here but women commentating on blokes games… well… how can I put it…. They fucking can’t…. all that screeching …. Sounds like 13 Brentwood Road going off on one on here….

Quite like all of the current Sky Cricket team.

Then again, I'm not one to really get annoyed by commentators like a lot of people on here are.

Arkle winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup beating the great Mill House, not sure if it's Peter O'Sullevan though?

There's no one better than Peter O'Sullevan commentating on horse racing, especially when one of the horses running is ARKLE

Re: Who's your favourite commentator?
Simon Holt (ITV Racing) is a superb commentator… he got chucked into the deep seat when a fellow commentators link went down and had to do it by just watching the TV set with a copy of the Sun in front of him… very impressively called it was as well… his call of Big Orange winning was a cracker as well… always liked Aussie Jim McGrath’s call on Sea the Stars in the Arc… “He’s gotta be a good horse to win from there… “…. Some brilliant US Gee Gee commentators as well none more so than Tom Durkin… get the chance watch and listen to his call on the magnificent `Rachel Alexandra’ in the Woodward Stakes ….

“ ...They are coming to the top of the stretch, it is still the filly in front, a dramatic stretch drive awaits in the Woodward Stakes, on the outside here's Bullsbay, and Calvin Borel imploring his filly for more, and Rachel Alexandra holds on to the lead, Bullsbay is second, Macho Again is making a tremendous run from the back of the pack, Rachel Alexandra, Macho Again, they are coming to the finish, it's gonna be a desperately close, here's the wire, RACHEL WON, SHE IS INDEED RACHEL ALEXANDRA THE GREAT, beating Macho Again here, and further back is Bullsbay in 3rd, the time was 1:48 and one, Rachel Alexandra RAISES THE RAFTERS here at the Spa.

Dan M, classic commentary:

"Rutherfords has been hampered, and so has Castle Falls; Rondetto has fallen, Princeful has fallen, Norther has fallen, Kirtle Lad has fallen, The Fossa has fallen, there's a right pile-up... Leedsy has climbed over the fence and left his jockey there. And now, with all this mayhem, Foinavon has gone off on his own! He's about 50, 100 yards in front of everything else!"
